Dr. Peter V. Bergstrom hails from Wisconsin. Now residing in Greensboro, North Carolina, he continues his research pursuits in Virginia. After receiving his doctorate in early American history from the University of New Hampshire (1979), he spent ten years as a research associate with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He has held teaching appointments at Illinois State University, the College of William and Mary, Hampton University, and Old Dominion University. Bergstrom is the author of Markets and Merchants: Economic Diversification in Colonial Virginia, 1700-1775 (1985) and has been a long-time contributor to the Virginia Biographical Dictionary project sponsored by the Library of Virginia. He lectures on Virginia history and genealogy for numerous historical and genealogical societies in Virginia, New Hampshire, and Illinois. Peter serves also on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Forum.
